Tammy Gibson is a historian who is set to release the guidebook, Honoring The Legacy: A Guide of African-American Monuments and Statues on September 15, 2020.
I caught up with Tammy via Zoom after coming across her website which has photos of Gibson traveling all over the world and visiting everywhere from slave plantations to the pyramids.
Gibson talked to me via Zoom about some of her experiences such as multiple trips to Africa and the importance of African American statues bringing pride in the community.
“Out of the 500 statues that I’ve located, less than a hundred were designed by black artists”
If that isn’t a blatant example of white privilege I don’t know what is.
