Is a ‘Saved By the Bell’ Reboot Really Necessary?

I just watched the new trailer for the reboot of the popular 1990s teen sitcom “Saved by the Bell” and can say with all honesty, I’m not interested in returning back to see what is going on at Bayside High School. Even though I’m sure the new characters are great, we are living in a Golden Age of great television and even if the show is somewhat edgier, I’ve outgrown it at this point.

Elizabeth Berkley reprises her role of Jessie Spano.

Opening the trailer, however, are the familiar faces of Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, who played AC Slater and Jessie Spano on the original series. They haven’t really done much acting since the series and I definitely don’t have an interest in seeing them reprise their original roles, I’d honestly see them in other projects, it would have been great to see Berkley in ‘Showgirls 2’.

The concept of the new series is your classic fish out of water story that occurs when students displaced by low-income school closures are sent to Bayside and other privileged schools. This is done on the order of California Gov. Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), the storyline certainly gets an “A” for effort. However, nothing about the trailer catches my attention and makes me feel that the reboot is completely unnecessary. Check out the trailer and let me know in the comments if you will check out the ‘Saved By the Bell” reboot?
