Buffalo Police Officers Pushing 75-year-old Protester Shouldn’t Have Been Charged

Police officers in Buffalo are being investigated because of a protest incident Gov. Andrew Cuomo called “wholly unjustified and utterly disgraceful.” The man was seriously injured but he provoked the entire situation. Video of the demonstration Thursday shows the man confronting the officers and two pushing him. His head bleeds onto the sidewalk as officers walk past him, some looking down at him.

The protesters in Niagara Square were, like other demonstrations across the country, calling for racial justice after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.
However, the protester who was 75 years old ran up to the police officers and invaded the officers personal space. The officers rightly reacted and pushed him. They didn’t have time to evaluate if the man was a threat or not if you watch the video. The officers — according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office are Aaron Torgalski, 39, and Robert McCabe, 32 — both arraigned via video conference and had the same attorney. The officers, who were with the Police Department’s Emergency Response Team will be in court again July 20. Is this white privilege at work seeing how swiftly the police were charged? Its a number of incidents where African-American protesters where just peacefully protesting before being assaulted by the police who approached them.
