Bethel High School Names High School Gym After Allen Iverson

Allen Iverson returned to Bethel High School Tuesday evening where the gym was name after him. The Allen Iverson Gymnasium in honor of the former NBA player whose career started in that gymnasium when he was a junior that led the football and basketball team to state championships. He didn’t play his senior year because he was serving time in prison because of a brawl at a bowling alley before being pardoned by then Governor Wilder and ended up graduating from a school for troubled youth before playing two seasons at Georgetown University and being the NBA’s number 1 draft pick. His career average in the NBA was 26.7 points per game over twelve seasons., not bad for a kid out of Bad News, Virginia that was only 6 feet.
