Let’s talk about the importance of exercise. Lately I have been writing a lot about musical artists, and stand up comics, but I want to take a detour from the world of entertainment and discuss our own particular worlds. Every human would like to live a life a happiness, peace, fulfillment, and love. I have found in my twenty five years of existence that a major, major element to achieving these states of mind require physical effort. Sweat. It is good for you. Exercise gets you out of the house, it gives you a sense of accomplishment so you feel good about yourself, and the momentum of getting shit done will carry you through the rest of your day.
Not everyone may agree with me here, but I find that the best time to get a workout in is in the morning. That way, you spend the rest of your day riding the wave of accomplishment. Your mood will increase, your energy, happiness, and all the other elements that factor into a good life, too.
A simple, 30-50 minute workout each day will do the trick. The hardest part obviously, is getting started and making it a habit. Once you go 5-6 times a week for thirty minutes a day for an entire month, you will start noticing changes in your body. As soon as this happens, the momentum of achievement will start to carry you over to the next day, and the next… Before you know it, that morning (or evening) workout will become routine analogous to brushing your teeth.
Starting now in early March, is the perfect time. We still have at least three months until beach weather starts catching up to us. The holiday season is over and has been over for a while, and I am sure you made the resolution back in January. If you have been sticking with it since then, good for you. But, if you have not… now is the time to get back in there. The key is finding what type of workouts you enjoy. For me, I enjoy calisthenics, gymnast type workouts. THENX is a great app for that. Others enjoy powerlifting, bodybuilding, and crossfit. The list goes on. Pick one, and get in the gym. See you on the beach in July.
