Romo got as close as any person could without stepping on the court for a real NBA game. Romo who was set to play for the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday night for their last home game was ready to go. Tony warmed up with the team and shot around the court in pre-game but coach Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle didn’t put him in saying the following:
“Signing him and stuff like that, would have been too much for a lot of reasons. No. 1, he’s a football athlete that’s not ready to play in an NBA game. That’s very risky. No. 2, to sign a guy with all of our requirements from a physical standpoint with the hours and hours of screening and all that kinds of other stuff, it just wasn’t worth going there. And that’s not really what this is about.”
Mark Cuban is not a dumb person though. It was the last home game for the Mavericks this season and they were playing for dirt. Why not spark a publicity stunt like this and get asses into seats that would of probably been empty right?
I do have to say I am upset he didn’t take the court even for a couple of minutes, but it is what it is. Romo seems to be very loved in the Dallas area and good luck to him, now post NFL and NBA careers. Now it is one on to the broadcast booth for Tony working for CBS.
