Fenway Park, Boston Ma – 4/5/17
Red Sox (2-0) 3 – Pirates (0-2) 0
After a day off Tuesday, post opening day, the Red Sox play their second game of the season and second game of this 3 game series verse the Pittsburgh Pirates. Chris Sale took the mound for the first time as a member of the Red Sox in a game that matters and baby all i can say is come Sale away.
Sale pitched a wonderful 7 innings and only gave up 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 7 strike outs giving everyone in the New England area movement below the waist. If that wasn’t exciting enough, the bullpen showed up and was looking mighty fine. The pen combined for only 2 hits and 0 runs. Joe Kelly looked like a stud out there in the 11th and the 12th inning, even with those goofy glasses he has on.
On the other side of the ball, the Pirates pitching wasn’t too shabby either. Taillon went 7 innings as well, giving up 5 hits and 6 strikes outs.
The real magic happen in the 12th inning when Sandy Leon-Me came up to bat with Jackie Bradly and Pablo Sandoval on base and hit a sweet walk off homer on a 0-1 count to win the game.
The game lasted 3 hours and 53 minutes, but every pitched kept you on the edge of your seat.
The first 2 games this year have been exciting and if this is any implication of what the season holds, then we are in for a treat kids.
The Red Sox play again Thursday 4/6/17 at 1:35 PM EST against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park in Boston, MA. Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez will take on Pirates pitcher Chad Kuhl, that is if the game doesn’t get rained out. Both teams have day games tomorrow so if the game is going to be called, it will be sooner than later.
The save the Citco Sign petition right now is 10K and climbing. Rumor has it that the rent for the Citco sign will go up to over 2 million a year. This is tragic to any Red Sox fan who has grown to associate Fenway Park and baseball with the giant flashing red gas station brand sign at Kenmore square. I ask all fans of baseball to please go to https://www.change.org/p/help-protect-a-boston-icon and take a second to sign and Save The Citco Sign!
