Fenway Park, Boston Ma – 4/3/17
Red Sox (1-0) 5 – Pirates (0-1) 3
Well it is that time of year. Opening day is finally here. It is a sign that spring is in the air and snow should be a thing of a past, well sort of. We all know that in New England you are never in the clear for snow.
Nothing is more exciting then the Red Sox opening up their season and for the first time since 2010, Boston opens up at home, and for only the 2nd time since 2005, the Pirates come to Fenway, and for the first time ever, the Red Sox opening up against the Pirates, who they played in the very first world Series ever in 1903, fun fact for you.
The Stadium was buzzing from the early morning to hours after. Tom Brady and Gronk were 2 of several Patriots that greeted the crowd for the opening ceremony. Brady, wearing is newly found stolen Super Bowl 51 jersey, threw out the first pitch and then had his shirt stolen again by his teammate Gronk, who 15 hours prior was a guest star on Wrestle Mania.
Porcello pitched a solid 5 innings but then the wheels fall off towards the 6th. He left the game and his runners that were left on base later scored on relief pitching. Overall he did get the W and so did the Red Sox.
Offensively, the lineup exploded in the 5th. 9 batters made it to the plate and 5 crossed it. The only home-run of the game was from rookie Andrew Benintendi who drove in 3 RBI’s.
The Red Sox got their first win of the season with a score of 5-3 and are off to a good start for 2017.
The Red Sox play again Wednesday 4/5/17 at 7:10 PM EST against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park in Boston, MA. Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale will take on Pirates pitcher Jameson Tailon.
The save the Citco Sign petition right now is 10K and climbing. Rumor has it that the rent for the Citco sign will go up to over 2 million a year. This is tragic to any Red Sox fan who has grown to associate Fenway Park and baseball with the giant flashing red gas station brand sign at Kenmore square. I ask all fans of baseball to please go to https://www.change.org/p/help-protect-a-boston-icon and take a second to sign and Save The Citco Sign!
