Quest to be a Boston Red Sox Beat Writer – Day 13

Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, West Palm Beach, Florida – 3/7/17

Red Sox 5 – Nationals 3

If you were watching the game today, you were probably saying, wow this field looks just like Houston’s – and you’d be right. Nationals and Astros are one of several teams that share facilities for spring training. The Indians and Reds in the Cactus league are another example. Enough about Stadiums on this entry, you can read all about that on my stadium review section, click here.

Back to the game; E Rod (Eduardo Rodriguez) is getting better each time out. He gave up only 2 earned runs, 1 walk and got 2 strike outs. The staff as a whole gave up 9 hits, 3 earned runs, 5 walks, 7 strikeouts and no home-runs. There are strong hopes that he will be a main piece of the starting rotation.

The offenses was looking good today as well, specially one of the of killer B’s, Mookie Betts. Betts went 2 for 3 and had one of the Red Sox home-runs in the game, Hanley Ramirez got the other.  As a team, the Reds Sox got 7 hits and 5 runs to beat the Nationals 3-5. The Sox will see the Nationals one more time in Florida on 3/30 and then at Nationals Park in Washington DC on 3/31 for the end of spring training play. That will be it for the season unless the two teams meet in the world series.

The Red Sox play again Wednesday 3/8/17 at 1:10 PM EST against the New York Mets at First Data field in Port St. Lucie Florida. Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello will take on Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard was also my nickname in high school.

The save the Citco Sign petition right now almost  15K and climbing. Rumor has it that the rent for the Citco sign will go up to over 2 million a year. This is tragic to any Red Sox fan who has grown to associate Fenway Park and baseball with the giant flashing red gas station brand sign at Kenmore square. I ask all fans of baseball to please go to and take a second to sign and Save The Citco Sign!
