LECOM Park, Bradenton, Florida – 3/4/17
Red Sox 2 – Pirates 3
We have approached 10 days straight now of pretending to be a beat writer for the Red Sox. For the most part this experiment has been getting positive reviews. There have been some haters, but they are probably 35 years who live in their mom basement and watch the live stream of the giraffe waiting to give birth 24/7, but for all those out there rooting me on, I say thank you! Now on to the game from today.
Hector Velazquez had another rough outing. In spring training play he is currently 0-2 with an ERA of 7.20. The second and third inning is where he ran into trouble. On the day, he pitched 3.0 innings and gave up 6 hits, 3 runs and 1 walk. The rest of the bullpen was able to keep the game in check, but it wasn’t enough to get by the Pirates today.
The Pirates pitching was pretty solid today only giving up 4 hits and 2 runs and a walk total. They also managed to cool the Sox red hot bats and get 10 strikeouts. New comer to the team Chris Young got a home-run today driving in the only 2 runs the Red Sox got. The Sox were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left 3 runners on base today.
The Red Sox play again Friday 3/5/17 at 1:05 PM EST against the Atlanta Braves at Jet Blue Park in Ft Myers Florida. Red Sox pitcher Kyle Kendrick will take on Braves pitcher Mike Folynewicz. This is the second time the Braves and Sox have seen each other in spring training
The save the Citco Sign petition right now is only 765 people shy of hitting 10K. Rumor has it that the rent for the Citco sign will go up to over 2 million a year. This is tragic to any Red Sox fan who has grown to associate Fenway Park and baseball with the giant flashing red gas station brand sign at Kenmore square. I ask all fans of baseball to please go to https://www.change.org/p/help-protect-a-boston-icon and take a second to sign and Save The Citco Sign!
