Quest to be a Boston Red Sox Beat Writer – Day 9

Champion Stadium, Kissimmee, Florida – 3/3/17

Red Sox 9 – Braves 1

The Red Sox are starting to put the pieces together on their second week of spring training. Rick Porcello, last years Cy Young winner, pitched like he wants that award again this year. He went a solid 3 innings giving up only 2 hits, 0 runs and 4 strike outs. Not too shabby for his first start of the year. The rest of the pitching lineup today was also fairly promising. Only 1 run off of 6 hits and all 7 pitchers combined for 7 strikeouts.

The bats were out again yesterday and I couldn’t tell if the players were in a great mood because its the start of the season or because they were at Disney World. Our boy Benintendi had a nice day with a home run and went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs. The team is starting to shape up and already looking a hell of a lot better then they did last week. I don’t feel that I have to jump of the Tobin

Also there was good news regarding David Price yesterday. He will not have season ending surgery this year and will receive treatment for the next 7 to 10 days. After taking a trip up in Indy to visit Dr. James Andrews, who is at the NFL combine this weekend, Price received the good second option news. He tweeted yesterday from the Indy.

The Red Sox play again Saturday 3/4/17 at 1:05 PM EST against the Pittsburgh Pirates at LECOM Park in Bradenton. Red Sox pitcher Hector Velazquez will take on Pirates pitcher Chad Kukl. The Red Sox will open up the regular reason this year against the Pirates.

I know I am a broken record, but this is very important if you are a Red Sox fan and a fan of the game, but the Citco sign needs out help. Rumor has it that the rent for the Citco sign will go up to over 2 million a year. This is tragic to any Red Sox fan who has grown to associate Fenway Park and baseball with the giant flashing red gas station brand sign at Kenmore square. I ask all fans of baseball to please go to and take a second to sign and Save The Citco Sign!
