Red Sox 3 – Rays 7
It was a rough outing for the Sox today about an hour and a half north of Jet Blue Park. Tampa silenced the Red Sox bats for the most part until the later in the game. Tampa on the other hand was able to put a run on the board in 4 of the 6 first innings. Red Sox pitcher Hector Velazquez lasted 2 innings, giving up 3 hits 1 walk and 1 run while getting the loss. Velazquez also got 4 strikeouts as well. On the other side, Rays pitcher Chris Archer last 2 innings as well but only gave up 1 hit and 1 walk.
Is the wild card of Sox pitching possibly showing their true colors? Out of the 7 pitchers who went for the Sox, all but 2 gave up at least one hit and all but 3 gave up an earned run. Walden and Ysla were the two who were most to blame for the Rays bats having a field day. The Sox offenses did do a little damage against Rays pitcher Ryan Yarbrough, but it was too little too too late. Hopefully Monday afternoon is a better day for the Sox
The Red Sox play again Monday 2/27/17 at 1:05 PM EST against the St. Louis Cardinals at Jet Blue Park where Red Sox pitcher Brian Johnson (not the radio guy on the sports hub) will take on Cardinals pitcher Mike Wacha. The Cardinals were not a playoff team last year and currently are 1-1 in spring training. The Red Sox are 1-2.
