This is a political documentary that is also a comedy.
Anthony Weiner was a house Representative for over a decade until a sex scandal took him down and he resigned from office. He decided to run for mayor of NYC and he allowed a documentary to made about him as it happened. While that was happening another sex scandal took him down and knocked him out of the race. This is that story.
The editors really had a good time with this one, putting certain shots in certain places and adding sound effects in places to make things seem more awkward than they are.
At times this was uncomfortable to watch because it seemed like at times his marriage (to Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s top adviser) was falling apart.
I laughed quite a bit. About a third of the laughs were at clips from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report so some credit should be given to them.
Oh and the image is of Sydney Leather, the blackjack dealer whom Weiner texted a picture of his weiner to who later went on to make a porno.
If this movie sounds like it might interest you at all, I think it will.
TLDR: 4/5. Delightful funny political documentary about a man’s life falling apart.
