Movie Review: Everybody Wants Some!!

Is this Dazed and Confused for the 80’s? -Steven Richard K

I really dig Richard Linklater’s films. The preview made this one look like Dazed and Confused for the 80’s, and it kind of was but not really. It is considered the spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused which was about high school in the 70’s and Everybody Wants Some!! is about college in the 80’s.

This movie was absolutely delightful.

After the screening I heard one of the critics complain that they didn’t like it because there wasn’t enough of a plot. To be fair, she was right, there wasn’t much of a plot, but personally I was okay with that, and I think most people will too.

It’s a slice of life showing the travels of an incoming freshman over the course of the weekend right before college starts as he gets acquainted with his housemates who are his baseball teammates. Linklater pulls you into the world and you follow along and fall in love with all the characters along the way.

There are quite a few funny moments coupled with some sweet ones and of course some stuff that will make you think.

Everybody Wants Some!! hits theaters April 1st.

TLDR: 4.5/5. Absolutely delightful. This movie is for everyone.
