Movie Review: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

This movie is based upon the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which is based upon the book Pride and Prejudice (sans zombies). For those of you not versed in copyright law, once things are old enough you can take them and use these classic source material and mess with it and make it your own. (Look out for my remake the Thoreau classic “Walden: How to get shitfaced in a state park without going to jail” coming to book shelves eventually.)

I’m not a big fan of this style of old shit. I don’t care about the lives of fancy people before electricity. The drama is mostly based upon the idea of “oh no someone is going to find out the truth” or “I’m a little kit different and I won’t fit in.”

Zombie movies are mostly garbage. Horror can be done cheaply and there are enough fans of the garbage that they don’t have to improve. There are some that are above the fray but that’s rare.

So that’s the formula. Some old stupid shit plus zombies. This could be anything from great to dog shit.

Started off good from the start. Good action.

Enjoyed the credit sequence. Animated story book history of zombies. Fun.

The stars are talking about boys while training fighting each other with ninja skills in a basement. Fun.

Some zombie movies trip up when they don’t explain the rules of zombies but this one sticks to the rules they set up and explains them satisfactorily when something goes against established rules.

Got a tad bit draggy in the middle but it picked back up again.

This movie was delightful. I had a lot of fun watching this one. I cared about the characters. I liked the mix of the two genres. I wasn’t really bored. It was a good time. I would recommend this one.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is in theaters now.

TLDR: 4/5. I really liked this movie. It was a lot of fun and was a fun mashup. I loved the characters and the fighting and they stuck to the rules. Grab this from a redbox when it comes out.
