Huge thank you to Turner Classic Movies for bringing this movie back to the big screen. I will repeat myself, now is a week time of year for movies released in theaters. There are a few new movies out there that I don’t really want to see (even free with my movie pass), but I might end up doing so eventually. The Forest (crappy horror movie), Norm of the North (crappy kids movie), Ride Along 2 (crappy comedy of which I’ve never seen the first).
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is from 1969 and stars the legends Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the western that won Best Original Screenplay in that years’ oscars. This is widely considered one of the greatest films of all time. I’ve already seen it for sure. (Maybe on a big screen during college during one of my film classes(?) but probably just on my computer at home so the theater experience will be fun for me).
Robert Redford waved to me once. I didn’t realize it was him until he was gone otherwise I would have loved to get a picture with him. (Cool story bro)
Goddamnit. It was Robert Duvall that waved to me. I did that last time which is why I didn’t realize which famous Robert it was and didn’t get a picture.
This was in theaters for 2 days because of those special Fathom events. I’ve seen a few things with the Fathom special features before and will make sure to keep my eye out for them. Next month Maltese Falcon will be in the theater this way, so if I’m still gasping for some quality films I have that to look forward to. Fortunately with the extra $5 I pay per month I can apparently see these Fathom events at AMC theaters as part of my movies pass.
Unfortunately my movie pass is not accepted at one of my favorite theaters in the Boston area. The Brattle theater in Harvard Square Cambridge is wonderful. I try to go there a couple times a year to see some of my favorite movies on the big screen with an audience. I even brought the Mrs. there to see It’s a Wonderful Life the day I proposed to her. (Yeah I know, I’m the best.) Cool thing coming up at the Brattle that I might check out: 1984 & Brazil double feature in early February.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a fantastic film, I would recommend you check it out if you haven’t seen it. Sure it’s old and just about 2 hours long but still it moves along pretty well. Tense action, exciting shootouts, some good chuckles, and beautiful scenery. (You’ll have to pick it up on DVD though.)
TLDR 5/5. Classic that holds up. If you want a good old western check it out.
