First, a quick aside about terrorism. There was an anonymous threat alleged by ISIS that Survivor Series would be targeted.
From the desk of The Iron Sheik:
Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens
The first of three WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament matches that can’t miss. Owens has been a revelation since debuting on the main roster in February and Ambrose is poised to be a permanent fixture in the main event for years to come. It’s hard imagining anything stopping a Shield on Shield tournament final. Expect Ambrose to move on after both put on a classic.
Prediction: Dean Ambrose def. Kevin Owens
Roman Regins vs. Alberto Del Rio
Injuries make for some strange bedfellows and this is one of those cases. With Seth Rollins, John Cena, Randy Orton, and Rusev all out, it makes sense that a baddie like Del Rio would fill in against Reigns in the quarter finals. Expect Reigns to go over to meet former Shield mate Ambrose in the main event and Del Rio to reengage with Jack Swagger for the U.S. title this month.
Prediction: Roman Reigns def. Alberto Del Rio
Dolph Ziggler vs. Tyler Breeze w/ Summer Rae
“The Showoff” meets “Prince Pretty” in a battle of the blondes. Breeze is the latest NXT call up who became successful enough to join the main roster without needing to win the NXT title first. His debut attack on Ziggler was vicious and his build has been steady and excellent. Ziggler has become a master of making his opponents looks great, like a modern day mash up of Ric Flair and “Mr. Perfect.” I see “The King of Cuteville” going over in convincing fashion and likely due to Summer Rae’s interference.
Prediction: Tyler Breeze def. Dolph Ziggler
The Brothers of Destruction vs. The Wyatt Family
Again considering injuries, it’s both surprising and unsurprising how this feud is turning out. Having a shallow number of healthy wrestlers does make it necessary for fights like these to go beyond one PPV, so it’s hard to imagine The Undertaker and Kane not winning on “The Deadman’s” 25th anniversary appearance. I see the Wyatt’s continuing to plague the brothers while, hopefully, the match ending sets the tone for the debut of NXT champion Finn Balor.
Prediction: The Brothers of Destruction def. The Wyatt Family
Charlotte vs. Paige for the WWE’s Divas Championship
This past Monday, the WWE creative team thought this feud was missing a deeper personal element to sell the match. They decided the real life heroin overdose of Charlotte’s brother, Reid, could fill that gap. If the point they wanted Paige to make was that Charlotte isn’t strong enough to be champion, they couldn’t gotten creative without needing to get personal. It’s trash like this that makes it impossible for a Diva’s Revolution to be taken seriously. Painting women as catty and heartless rather than competitive athletes is bullshit. Charlotte wins by annihilation following this messy, tasteless garbage.
Prediction: Charlotte def. Paige
WWE Worldheavyweight Championship Finals
The main story of this tournament born from a barrage of injuries is that Roman Reigns can’t win the title. Survivor Series is infamously WWE’s most popular screwjob PPV, with names like Bret Hart and Mankind being deliberately kept from winning the title. The question this year is if Dean Ambrose embraces the dark side through The Authority and keeps Reigns again from becoming champion, or if WWE flips their script and has Roman Reigns be their new soulless puppet. I predict Ambrose is the new man on top with Reigns chasing him until Wrestlemania.
Prediction: Dean Ambrose def. Roman Reigns
